Luminescence Dating
Luminescence Dating
There are several methods for rock dating that have their own disadvantages and advantages. These methods include radiocarbon, argon, cosmogenic, and luminescence.
Luminescence method
The unit is designed to crawl rocks that have vast applications in geosciences, geography, archeology, oceanography and climatology.
Goals and capabilities of the sector
The main objectives of this section are divided into three parts of research, education and services as follows:
A. research activities
The study of natural hazards includes earthquake detection, drought, flood and volcano.
Usually, natural events occur periodically. Determining the age of the rotation and the last time of the natural occurrence will help us to estimate the period of occurrence and the probability of occurrence of the next natural hazard. One of the basic methods for estimating the risk of earthquakes related to the faults is to measure the degree of fault slip during a particular period, which would be feasible with the help of dating techniques.
In archeology, determining the absolute age of civilizations and findings is a key factor. This section would be very effective by helping the archaeologists in Iran to carry out research projects by assessing deposits and archaeological findings.
In climatology, taking into account the recording of past events in the nature, it is possible to find a picture of the state of the climate with the history of the past earth's climates.
Longitudinal studies of seismology, ancient climatology and archeology can be studied simultaneously in different regions of Iran.
B. training activities
by considering the necessity of this method in the researches, it is essential for specialists to strengthen their national activities in order to achieve those goals. In this regard, the department hopes to provide the groundwork for the training of the physics, land physics, geophysics, geology, geography, archeology, and other fields through close educational cooperation.
C. cooperative activities
Despite the lack of facilities, this unit has provided the necessary ground for achieving its goals, while maintaining close contact with the universities of Oxford and other universities in the UK. In this way, the facility has been outsourced to meet the needs of the country, and is now is connected to various government agencies including the Geological Survey, the Ministry of Housing, the Heritage and Tourism Organization, etc.

Equipment (laboratory and field)
considering the fact that much effort has been made to fund the purchase of equipment so far, since the beginning of 2007, with the construction of a dark room, a movement has been initiated to establish a national luminescence laboratory.
Service:
We are ready to San finding the luminescence method based on the participation of academic and price are agreed. for further activities, projects and information, contact the luminescence laboratory.NOTE: Please do NOT start a priori sampling if you're willing to apply luminescence method in the field.
