Introduction

Today Seismology Department is in charge of the Iranian Seismological Center (IRSC) which analyzes all earthquakes occur in Iran. Geophysical earthquake researches are mainly related to large data driven systems and focus on methodological development and also geological targets and case studies.

The locations, focal mechanisms and underlying stress conditions are analyzed in order to understand why and where the earthquakes occur. We conduct researches in different structures in the crust and mantle using various methods developed within areas of seismic tomography and surface wave analysis in order to understand processes such as mountain building and volcano development.

Our current earthquake researches is focused on understanding the mechanism of the earthquakes and investigating the mechanisms behind the current intra-plate, inter-plate Makran subdoction zone and three different collision zones seismicity and investigations of the structure of the crust and upper mantle of Iran plate.
